This is still a work in progress as I upload tasting notes and wine labels from as far as 1999... Check back once in a while to get the updates.

MNSC dinner - Seventh Son

MNSC dinner at Seventh Son, hosted by Curry Jayer.

1989 Krug Collection - opened 3 hours prior to serving.  Absolutely beautiful nose.  Oxidized nose with savory minerals, marmalade, a little bit toasty, flinty, yeasty.  Not much bubbles here.  The palate was a little weird, and the acidity was mild.

First flight: opened 70 minutes prior to serving.
1980 Henri Jayer Echezeaux - very clean, nice nose with animal, a little toast, a little stinky, slightly grassy, and almost a little floral.  93 points

1981 Henri Jayer Echezeaux - a little fruitier, a little richer, a little sweet and exotic.  94 points

Second flight: opened 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to serving.
1990 Rouget Echezeaux - younger than the first flight.  Slightly sharper nose, with nice fruit and toasty notes.  93 points

1993 Rouget Echezeaux - much richer and riper, with forest notes.  Beautiful.  95 points

Third flight: opened 3 hours prior to serving.
1988 Méo-Camuzet Richebourg - animal, sweet fruit, and leather notes.  94 points

1993 Méo-Camuzet Richebourg - bigger, with more toast on the nose.  95 points

Fourth flight: opened and decanted 3½ hours prior to serving.
2004 DRC Echezeaux - tons of floral notes, violet, forest, leather, and bacon fat.  Pretty sweet on the nose.  High acidity on the palate.  Beautiful... just fucking awesome.  97 points

2002 DRC Echezeaux - really sweet nose, very floral, violet, with bacon fat and leather.  Really beautiful.  98 points

Selosse and Clos de la Roche

Dinner at Neighborhood.

1998 Jacques Selosse Brut, dégorgée à 7 Fevrier 2007 - what a beautiful wine!  Interestingly, not a lot of carbonation here... just some very fine bubbles... almost like a still wine!  Nose was not surprisingly very much like salty plum (話梅), savory, with minerals, and also sweet and caramelized, with some honey.  Really opened up well after more than an hour.

2001 Dujac Clos de la Roche - we decided not to decant this even though a friend had made the suggestion.  Nose was a little fragrant, with nice fruit and a little bit of toast as well as a hint of minty notes.  Later on it showed a little animal and leather notes.  Nice acidity balance here.

2004 Ponsot Clos de la Roche - we put this in a decanter per a friend's suggestion, and even past the two-hour mark the wine was not revealing too much.  Yes, there was some fruit here, and some animal notes, and even a little metallic.  I thought the 2004s would be pretty ready to drink now, but this was just not ready.  At all.

1995 Chapoutier Hermitage Vin de Paille, en demi-bouteille - always one of my favorite sweet wines, now at 20 years of age.  Yeasty, with orange marmalade, a little nutty, certainly straw and slightly vegetal, with some toasty corn, too.  Sweet on the attack but actually not too sweet mid-palate.  Nice acidity here.

Potel, Boillot, and Cos

Dinner at Akrame.

1990 Nicolas Potel Meursault 1er Cru Perrières - prominent toasty notes, nice and buttery, with some minerals and lemon.  Ripe on the palate but nicely balanced.

1999 Jean-Marc Boillot Pommard 1er Cru Jarrolières - nose of very exotic spices, a little leather.  A little closed at first, slightly smoky.  Still somewhat tannic on the palate.  Second pour after chilling the wine was much better.

1986 Cos d'Estournel - nose of black olives, very savory, pretty smoky, and graphite notes.  Later on the acidity was noticeably higher.  At nearly 30 years of age, there wasn't as much fruit detectable from this bottle, but starting to taste a little mature and perhaps a little tired.

71 Auslese and 07 Barolo

Dinner at The Eight in Macau.

1971 Christoffel Berres Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese - wonderful nose of mandarin orange and marmalade, with some nutty and apricot notes.  Nice acidity on the rounded palate.  Finish was a little short, and also slightly bitter.  Beautiful amber color.

2007 Giuseppi e Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato - decanted but still really young.  Very ripe and fruity nose, definitely strawberry and jammy.  A little sharp on the palate.

Lucien Le Moine tasting

Lucien Le Moine tasting hosted by Hong Kong Wine Vault.  Mounir Saouma was here, but I only saw him as he was walking out.

2012 Lucien Le Moine Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots - nose was very fragrant and open, sweet, almost caramel, with a little bit of forest notes.

2012 Lucien Le Moine Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains - bigger nose than the Pommard, a little more pungent, with toasty oak, mocha, chocolate, forest pine, and sweet fruit on the nose.

2012 Lucien Le Moine Clos de Vougeot - black fruits, a little spicy and minty.  Very nice.

2010 Clos Saouma Châteauneuf-du-Pape Arioso - pungent nose of burnt rubber.  Some fruit here, and still got some tannins here.

2012 Lucien Le Moine Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières - lots of toasty oak on the nose, with citrus notes.  A little ripe on the palate but good acidity.  Very nice.

2012 Lucien Le Moine Corton Blanc - really big nose of toast.  Beautiful and complex, with lemon citrus notes.  Definitely ripe on the palate.

2010 Cuvée Rousseau-Deslandes

Dinner at a friend's home.

2010 Hospices de Beaune Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Rousseau-Deslandes elevé par Lucien Le Moine - very tight, and took a long time to open up just a little.  Surprisingly huge nose of toast, with forest notes on top of black fruits.

2004 Biondi-Santi

Dinner at Gradini.

2004 Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino - this wasn't the Riserva, so it was accessible immediately after decanting.  Very sweet on the nose, and slightly sharp and alcoholic at first.  Nice and fragrant nose of forest and black fruits.

De Montille with de Montille

Lunch Seventh Son with Etienne de Montille.

Paul Déthune Blanc de Noirs - pretty fragrant nose, caramelized, and nutty.  Kinda round on the palate, with a slightly acidic finish.

2008 de Montille Corton-Charlemagne - very buttery, with marmalade notes and a little flinty.  Very ripe and round on the palate, but with a dry finish.  Very enjoyable.

1993 Domaine Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Boudots - nose of sweet grass, with a little leather and floral notes.  Dry on the palate.  The second pour delivered a nose that was so open and beautiful, which was ripe and sweet and almost jammy.

1990 Montrose - I was certainly not expecting to drink this wine again so soon.  Nose of animal and leather.  Almost a little stinky and savory, with some coffee notes.  Very lovely, but probably needed a little more decanting time.
