This is still a work in progress as I upload tasting notes and wine labels from as far as 1999... Check back once in a while to get the updates.

MNSC dinner - Golden Leaf

MNSC dinner at Golden Leaf. The Ox hosting for his birthday.

1995 Moët et Chandon Brut Impérial Rosé - deliciously refreshing with notes of strawberries.

First flight:

1989 Guigal La Mouline - this opened up very early on, which was why it was easy to guess. Also the nose of rose petals was a telltale sign. Really good stuff, but this was also the first one to fade.

1989 Guigal La Landonne - this was pretty powerful, with a harder edge, but also very fruity and sweet. It was the slowest to open up but quickly caught up. Wow! Really delicious! Ended up being my favorite of the night, surprisingly.

1989 Guigal La Turque - this showed classic rose petals from the viognier. Very luscious. Close to the end this showed lots of caramel and coffee notes. Wonderful stuff.

Second flight:

1999 Vérité La Joie - the nose was very New World, but in a St. Emilion kind of way.

1996 Guado al Tasso

Dinner at Toscana.

1996 Antinori Guado al Tasso - this was pretty smooth and very drinkable. However, this was not very fruity. Disapointing. This blend of 60% cab, 30% merlot, and 10% syrah isn't very interesting. Won't be buying again. Turns acidic. Bought from Remy.

1983 Syrah vs Shiraz

Dinner at Fook Lam Moon.

1983 Guigal La Landonne - this was very light in body... much lighter than I expected. Nose was a bit medicinal at first, with full-blown smoked meats, bacon fat, and surprisingly a bit of violet even though there's no viognier. Smooth on the palate. Pretty delicious but slightly disappointing.

Bought from Tatung Atherton.

1983 Penfolds Grange - this was powerful through and through. Nose was oaky, with butter, cassis, sweet like Ribena. A hint of mint and perhaps even sweet corn? Tannins were still firm after 20 years, and with many years of aging potential.

Bought from Farr for GBP 130.

1993 Trapet Latricières

Drinking at home.

1993 Trapet Latricières-Chambertin - nose of black cherries, smoked meats, bacon, a bit of barnyard smell, glazed sugar and glycerin at the end. Peaks quite fast, so I would suggest airing not more than 30 minutes. Very nice nose but the body was a bit light... elegant rather than powerful.

Bought from Vinum for SGD 125.
